Once there was a queen who, as she sat upon her velvet throne, had a box of treasure upon her lap. However, she was very sad because she did not possess the key to open it, for it was locked and she lingered in frustration wondering what could be inside. The king, noticing her malaise, summoned locksmiths and jewelers from the kingdom to fashion a key that would open the lock and they arrived, some twelve or thirteen of them, but after many hours, not one of them could figure out the complicated keyhole. The queen's depression increased. Therefore, the king summoned seventy giants, that by using brute strength they could pry off the lid of the treaure box. Seventy giants tried and seventy giants failed. The queen's sadness grew worse. Therefore, the king in his desperation, took an axe and chopped at the box only to find it bounced off without making a scratch. He tried burning it in a fire and found the flames refused to penetrate. Finally, he tried dropping it off the castle's highest tower, and with a sinking heart discovered it completely intact. The queen realized she would never be able to open her box of treasure and she began to weep. She cried a thousand oceans, and everyone sailed in their boats alone. The queen sat with the box of treasure on her lap drifting until she saw a green island. Her boat reached the shore and coming up to greet her were children, or was it angels dancing, or faeries laughing? No one can be sure. fyn gula - Monday, January 24, 2000 at 7:44:12 (EST) This site is archived and is no longer accepting additions. |
