Get Shorty! 1995
Twice in this movie, I saw Vinnie Barbarino. Travolta plays another mobster, but this one has an interest in the movies. I think Travolta plays an excellent mafioso, but I just hope he doesn't get himself typecast. He might end up doing something desperate to show he can do something else, like switch roles with Jim Carrey and star in Ace Ventura 6: When Monkeys Fly Out of My Ass. Then again, I can just see Carrey as a mobster.

This movie was really good, twisting and turning, never letting me get bored. Rene Russo was always nice to look at, and some of the camera scenes were nice (the sunset). Definitely worth seeing even if you're neither a Travolta nor mobster film movie. As for the book this is all based on, well I can't tell you -- haven't read it.

GoldenEye 1995
I still can't recall whether this is the first Bond film I've seen on the big screen. Could be, but regardless, I didn't go in with any preconcieved notions, which so often seems to be the case with others. I just expected it to be a standard Bond film.

I've always enjoyed the grand schemes and sets of Bond. It was a chance for my imagination to run wild, to see things you don't normally see like giant underwater fortresses. Well, in that sense, this movie was a dud. The big scheme was half-baked and the sets half-assed. So was this movie a flop? No, a few things saved it.

Bond returns to his witty form with Brosnan's humor. Something I've always expected, but which seemed to be absent with Dalton. The second thing was the attempt to update the whole system to account for contemporary society, without crushing the character. A female M adds a good touch.

And finally, the women! The evil woman reminds me of my ex-girlfriend Katie. Just the power/sexual side. Someone I would definitely be weary of (not my ex:). No, the woman I liked was the "good girl", she just pushed all my buttons. Tall, short dark hair, the outfits. Oh, a word about outfits. I found her alluring in everything but the white swimsuit on the beach. It just didn't do anything for me, including the gratuitious close-up of her crotch. Anyway, now that I've ensured that all the men out there will see it, to equally entice the ladies, I'll say -- I hope you like hairy chests, cause Bond's got one. Do see!

The Money Train 1995
Ok, I guess I expected a little bit more from this film. The actual Money Train part is relegated to the beginning and the end of the movie with the middle taken up by a relatively surprising plot: brothers and a woman. The witty conversations between the testosterone-pumped Woody and Wesley can get tedious and predictable, but what does one expect. Yet the finale just doesn't pack a whole lot of punch. Too many things were brought in to this film and just left to fizzle. Definitely not Speed in a tunnel nor White Men Can't Jump on the Tracks. Might be worth a matinee.
Toy Story 1995
Smile city!! This film was a direct tap on my imagination. I saw myself playing around just like those animators must have. The three-eyed aliens in the arcade were so cute. I want one of those for my very own. This is a film that should be seem not just for the state of the art in computer animation, but more importantly for just a wonderfully imaginative piece. Toys coming alive. Toys from yours and my childhood. See!
The American President 1995
Its very rarely that I ever want anything to do with being a career politician, but this film made me want to be president. Well, made me want to be the president dating Annette Benning:) No seriously, it presented the present as someone who has to go through a lot yet is very well respected (or something like that, this isn't a politics essay final). I really enjoyed this movie.
White Man's Burden 1995
Well, the makings of a good concept, yet was a poor film. I didn't have any problem with Travolta's character. I didn't keep thinking he was gonna turn around and be Chili Palmer. Belafonte doesn't play that exciting a character in the film. And the film doesn't try anything new in my opinion. Ho humm...
To Die For 1995
Well, someone recommended this film to me, and I only saw it for a buck.seventy five, but I still found it kind of boring. She IS a wicked woman in this film (can't remember her name, Tom Cruise's wife..ahhh Nicole Kidman -- I knew it was one of the useless pieces of information I had lodged in my head). Other then that...painful. Those teenage characters were just...excrutiatingly painful to watch and listen to. (just had to end my sentence in a preposition).
Canadian Bacon 1995 (on video)
This was funny!! One of John Candy's last films, it stars Rhea Perlman and Alan Alda (as the President of the United States). The film is directed by the director of Roger & Me (and a wonderful television show: TV Nation..can't remember HIS name now). Anyway, the president's aids are telling him that he is gonna loose re-election because their is world peace. So they try to rekindle the cold war with former Soviet republics, and when that fails, start a faux cold war with Canada. Candy and Perlman play sheriffs in Niagra Falls who take it all too seriously, and end up taking matters into their own hands. Must see!
The Madness of King George 1994 (on video)
Missed this one in the theater. Is a good movie, very rich in its cinematography. If you are at all interested in the notion of royalty and how that all works, this films depicts the power structure and struggle and what happens when the King "goes mad". Brutal at times, but well worth watching.
Copycat 1995
Okay, not very exciting. Not very fresh. Not much to say. A little bit over-bloody in parts. And of course there were the grautitous fake-computer/nt stuff.
The City of Lost Children 1995
OH BOY!! If any of you have seen the film Delicatessan this is the follow-up picture. I think I read that this film has the most (computer) special effects of any European/Film. Its a sci-fi menangerie. It throws in the romantic, storybook feel of the circus sideshow with the haunting, shadowy world of film noir. A definite vacation from the Hollywood cinema. I recommended this film more times then any other film.
Four Rooms 1995
Okay, a lot of hype, not much in return. I lik Tim Roth (especially in Little Odessa) and I really liked his chance at getting away from the ganster roles. As for the four "scenes" I only liked the third one, with Banderas and the devilish little kids. Maybe rent this on video tape, or if you are a HUGE fan, but otherwise...pass.
