Tribapalooza '95

This is the second contest for the summerTRIBEofWOOLgatherers. It's a trivia contest for fame, and yes, maybe even prizes.

There are three ways to score with this contest: 1) To answer the questions correctly, 2) To simply make (real) guesses, 3) To submit trivia questions for the Tribe to answer.

This is first and foremost for fun. PLAY FAIR! and PLAY!

All guesses should be sent directly to me, not the whole list. For the sanity of myself and others, please don't send answers or questions to the list.

All guesses should be serious, don't just go guessing to try and get more points, i have built safeguards against that.

This first Trivia Contest will end on August 21st, so play hard and play fast.

I will send a list of questions before each Tribe email. The list will expand with the questions submitted and with the questions i add. After a question has been answered, i will include it for one post with the name of the correct guesser. The scores will be sent out to the list every so often, as well as a individual score summary when appropriate.

I'm doing it a bit different this time. For the sake of more people getting prizes (they want?) and for the sake of my wallet, i am going to do 2 new things:

1) make a "pool" of possible prizes which will grow during the contest, and whoever wins 1st place will get first choice, the 2nd place second choice, etc, down to the last prize.

2) i am making a request for prize donations. you can donate a prize(s) and it will be put into the "pool". you CAN win your prize back by just getting a high enough finish to choose it before others. sorry, i doubt the donation is tax deductible. but it will be appreciated.

(now this is complex, so bare with me. if you have any questions, just send them to me. i will be sending out personal score summaries to those who participate.)

Scoring is divided up into 3 parts: 1) Points for Correct Answers, 2) Points for guesses, and 3) Points for Questions submitted.

Correct Answers
You will get One point for each correct answer. I will be as lenient as i think fit for how close you get to the answer.

I will take the first correct answer as determined by the time i receive your email.

Challenges will be accepted if you think i made a bad call. Just email me with your challenge. I'll try to be fair.

The amount of points you can get from this section is only limited by how many questions out there. And of course, you CANNOT answer questions you yourself submitted.

Guesses

Yes, you can earn points for guesses. I will make a judgement as to whether they are "serious". You can't get points for merely sending me joke answers. But if you DO send me junk answers and i find them amusing, you can win *'s. These aren't points, but in the case of a tie for points, i will make my decision based on *'s.

The scoring for guesses is NOT one guess = one point. The scoring is determined by the total amount of guesses you make.

	how this multiplier works is:

	(ex) Total Guesses = 15	, multiplier = .1, 15 x .1 = 1.5

	so you'd get 1.5 pts for Guesses.

	(ex) Total Guesses = 50 , multiplier = .25, 50 x .25 = 12.5

	so you'd get 12.5 pts for Guesses.

Questions

The most confusing (perhaps) way to get points, but i guess just the serious players will try to use this method.

You can submit questions (to me) along with the answers. no answer, no luck. they cannot be trivia questions from other sources. you gotta come up with them in a original manner. now, it's gonna be impossible for me to check, so just be on your honor. i will start to suspect something if they seem too polished or come in massive waves.

You WANT to try and stump people, you get extra points if you do, but you also stand to lose points if you come up with such and obscure question that no one guesses. (more later.)

these are the steps for submitting and scoring questions:

	step 1)	submit your question and answer

	(ex) "How many "e"'s in my last name?"
		answer: 2

	step 2) i will determine whether it is useable.

	step 3) it will be sent out for people to guess at.

	for every WRONG guess by someone, you receive .25 pts.
	if someone guesses the question, you receieve .5 pts
		(in addition to the points for wrong guesses)
	if no one correctly answers the question by games end,
	you will receive 2pts. (plus points for wrong guesses)

	(ex)  there were ten guesses for the question above
		including one correct answer:

		9 x .25pts + .5 pts. = 2.75pts.

	If you submit 5 or more questions that receive no guesses,
	i will keep an eye on you to determine whether you are 
	trying to milk the system. beware.
